Get queuing for your free T-shirts!
Southampton get's it's own AppleStore this Saturday. It's in the WestQuay Shopping Centre, next door to GAP and opens at 9am sharpish. As usual with this sort of life-changing event, the first thousand through the door get a free t-shirt and there'll be a Grand Opening Sweepstake. You can win a Digital Lifestyle Collection worth more than £1700. No purchase necessary.
My Mother-in-law lives nearby, and her G3 iMac is on it's last legs. She's in the market for a new Mac but due to the fact that she can't work her photo printer (that I bought her) and being charged a whole £50 labour for fitting a new PRAM batter (sacrilege!) she's been threatening to buy a cheap Dell. A silly decision really, as she's never used a PC before. Don't say I haven't tried to warn her of the impending doom, I even sourced her a re-furbed Mac mini with Samsung monitor for less than the price of a Dimension. Looks like when most are seeing the light and switching to Mac she's gonna go to the dark side. Well I'm washing my hands once and for all. Don't ask me next time you're having a spot of bother MiL, talk to Dell Support. I wonder if it's still in India? ...See. Doomed! I spend too much of time explaining stuff to my own mother these days anyway.
Let's just hope she'll come back with her tail between her legs and get that Mac mini. I'll keep you posted.

Just got back from visiting the West Quay Applestore on its first day. I have to say I was a little unimpressed by the size of the store. It is all on one level too. So it is a puzzle why it took so long to open. I had assumed they were fitting a custom built glass staircase!
Still, the staff were great. Lots of cheering for the first few hundred through the doors. Plus lots of ipods and mac to touch and play with. Its going to be very useful to have an Applestore so close to home.
Yes Apple pride themselves on their staff. Don't spend too much time in there though. You'll only be hypnotized into buying something.
