A few hours ago, Apple previewed the iPhone 2.0 software and released a beta with the new iPhone Software Development Kit. Now all those Developers can go away and write lots of lovely apps for the iPhone and iPod touch. The iPhone SDK (which anyone can download) includes programming interfaces for Core OS, Core Services, Media and Cocoa Touch technologies. It also lets developers create applications that use the iPhone’s Multi-Touch user interface, animation technology, large storage, built-in three-axis accelerometer and geographical location technology. The iPhone 2.0 software includes new enterprise features such as support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync to provide secure, over-the-air push email, contacts and calendars as well as remote wipe, and the addition of Cisco IPsec VPN for encrypted access to private corporate networks - all the stuff needed for enterprises to start using the iPhone seriously like the Blackberry.
The beta iPhone 2.0 software also provides several new Mail features such as the ability to view PowerPoint attachments, in addition to Word and Excel, as well as the ability to mass delete and move email messages. Find out more about the SDK iPhone 2 beta here.
