Looks like iPods will soon get CoverFlow with the next firmware update.

Look, just like the iPhone. And this doesn't look like a fake.
CoverFlow is very cool, isn't it?

Hidden features on the iPhone.
This just popped up on YouTube. Some geek's been through the keynote frame by frame and spied some interesting features.
"Four things about the iPhone that you probably overlooked from Steve Job's MacWorld keynote. They include what the calendar application looks like, how you'll view traffic in Google Maps, another way to scroll through long lists and how ringtones may ultimately work."

Apple TV won't be late...err, yes it will.
After rubbishing the rumours about the late-shipping media streamer, Apple has come clean by annoucing it will be a month late. Perhaps they need the extra time to strike a deal with eyeTV so we can use it as a hard drive recorder?
Nah. Who am I trying to kid?

Live From London: Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly on the 6th March.
Sam Duckworth (no he's not from 'the street') will be treating us to a live performance at Regents Street starting at 9pm.
So start queuing at six.
Oh look. He's also got a media player on his website that looks like an iPod!

This aired during the Oscars - hence the film clips.
It's a shame it won't be saying 'hello' to us until the end of the year, isn't it?

Mac Users Unite!
I'm calling on you, the British Mac-using public, to hereby protest against the BBC's plan to launch an on-demand TV service that is only compatible to Windows users.
This is something Roger Webb of the Three Counties Mac User Group. The 10 Downing Street Website has a simple form to fill (just remember to click the link in the returned email) - much quicker than filling in the BBC's own form, that was more akin to sitting an exam.
We pay our license fees, we should be able to watch old episodes of Top Of The Pops and Faulty Towers too!

Will there be a sexy little sub-notebook by the summer?
Apple are rumoured to have a tiny MacBook in development which is ahead of it's target launch date around the time of this summer's Worldwide Developers Conference.
Apple are hoping to increase sales in the Japanese sector where sales have been spilling 14% each year.
Not only will this new version of the ground-breaking PowerBook 2400 be of interest to the Japanese, it'll have me reaching for my credit card for sure.
Please let this rumour be true.
Please!

Not only did a French bloke design his and build his own Apple guitar, he also made a website about it using iWeb.
Dix points, monsieur!

Fellow Blogger Technogogo has posted some photos of the Southampton AppleStore opening. it looks like a carbon copy of the one in BlueWater. Any sign of my Mother-in-law there?

Apple openly asks Music Companies for DRM-Free downloads.
Today Steve Jobs published an open letter to the bosses of the 'big four', Universal, Sony BMG, Warner and EMI. He discusses the future of protected track downloads, along with the pros and cons of options for the future. Copy-protecting downloaded tracks from iTunes is doing and will do nothing to stop music piracy, due to the fact that the majority of music is still sold as unprotected CDs (90% in fact).
He goes onto embrace the future of DRM-free tracks. Those that can be downloaded from any online music store and played on any mp3 player.
It looks like a last ditch attempt to prove to the music bosses that DRM is a waste of everyone's time. Also, Some European Countries have tried to open Apple's DRM, FairPlay through the courts as they breach local industry rules.
Will the big four sit up and take note? They listened to him before, didn't they?

You can read the whole 'Thoughts on Music' letter here.

Get queuing for your free T-shirts!
Southampton get's it's own AppleStore this Saturday. It's in the WestQuay Shopping Centre, next door to GAP and opens at 9am sharpish. As usual with this sort of life-changing event, the first thousand through the door get a free t-shirt and there'll be a Grand Opening Sweepstake. You can win a Digital Lifestyle Collection worth more than £1700. No purchase necessary.
My Mother-in-law lives nearby, and her G3 iMac is on it's last legs. She's in the market for a new Mac but due to the fact that she can't work her photo printer (that I bought her) and being charged a whole £50 labour for fitting a new PRAM batter (sacrilege!) she's been threatening to buy a cheap Dell. A silly decision really, as she's never used a PC before. Don't say I haven't tried to warn her of the impending doom, I even sourced her a re-furbed Mac mini with Samsung monitor for less than the price of a Dimension. Looks like when most are seeing the light and switching to Mac she's gonna go to the dark side. Well I'm washing my hands once and for all. Don't ask me next time you're having a spot of bother MiL, talk to Dell Support. I wonder if it's still in India? ...See. Doomed! I spend too much of time explaining stuff to my own mother these days anyway.
Let's just hope she'll come back with her tail between her legs and get that Mac mini. I'll keep you posted.
