Apple sends out invites

The invites have been sent out and AppleInsider have predicted that the event will have something to do with the Beatles Catalogue appearing on iTunes. They noticed that the headline comes from Apple Records' press release announcing the Beatles split on April 10, 1970:
"Spring is here and Leeds play Chelsea tomorrow and Ringo and John and George and Paul are alive and well and full of hope. The world is still spinning and so are we and so are you," read the 1970 Beatles release. "When the spinning stops -- that'll be the time to worry, not before. Until then, the Beatles are alive and well and the beat goes on, the beat goes on."

Finally! TV for sale on UK iTunes

US TV comes to iTunes UK a bit earlier than expected. At £1.89 a pop you can view them on a PC or Mac, fifth generation iPod, or on a widescreen TV with Apple TV.
“We’re thrilled to bring TV programming to the iTunes Store in the UK,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s vice president of iTunes. “We’ve got 28 shows and expect to continue to add more great programming.” The complete list of television programming on the iTunes Store in the UK includes:
• Disney’s ABC Studios’ dramas and comedy-dramas “Lost,” “Desperate Housewives,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Ugly Betty,” “Commander in Chief” and “Nightstalker;”
• Disney Channel’s renowned children’s programming including “Jake Long: American Dragon,” “Kim Possible,” “That’s So Raven,” “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody” and Playhouse Disney titles “Handy Manny,” “Little Einsteins” and “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse;”
• MTV’s reality favourites “Pimp My Ride,” “Barrio 19,” “Bam’s Unholy Union,” “Laguna Beach,” and “My Sweet Sixteen;”
• Nickelodeon children’s programming “Avatar: The Legend of Aang,” “Drake and Josh,” “Dora the Explorer,” “Genie in the House” and “SpongeBob SquarePants;” and
• Paramount Comedy hits “South Park,” “Comedy Blue,” “Jongleurs Unleashed: Part I,” “That 70’s Show” and “The World Stands Up.
I think I'll stick with Stage6 and Veoh for the time being.

iPod sale = new iPods on horizon

Whilst holidaying in Cornwall, I spotted a John Lewis newspaper ad for iPods - silver ones are now only £68.95 and the black ones are £30 cheaper. This can mean only one thing. The new iPods that run on Mac OS X will be out soon. Some (supposedly) leaked blurry photos of the new video iPods have appeared on the web (a bit disappointing compared to the iPhone) and AppleInsider reckon there'll be some sort of event on the 5th September. They may even announce the long awaited video downloads on the UK iTunes Store. Oh Joy.

Lennon for sale on iTunes

John Lennon's back catalogue has popped up on the iTunes Store. It's only a matter of time before the 'holy grail' of the Beatles appears there too.

Widget reveals music purchases to the world

Apple has introduced a web widget My iTunes, to go with the new iWeb '08. You can upload it to most blogs and even an RSS feed. You can show either iTunes Purchases or Favourite Artists for the world to see. So it's a good way to embarass yourself. You can choose from five styles and three sizes. Here's a medium one for you to laugh at. I'll Stick two small ones down the right hand-side so you can keep up to date with the sort of shit I waste my money on.

(Well it was supposed to be a medium-sized widget but it looks like they still have a few bugs to iron out.

Apple backtrack on iMovie

iMovie HD '06 has now been made available to those of us who bought iLife '08 to run on our old Macs. The new iMovie can only run on fast G5s and Intel processors. Horray! Apple still care for us 'vintage' Mac users. Not everyone can afford to upgrade their Mac whenever a new processor comes out. (This makes me feel better since I tried to play around with the new Web Galleries within .Mac. I couldn't without first upgrading my iLife.)
I would've liked to get iLife '08 for free with a new iMac, but there's no way I can afford one. Now there's no excuse for not getting Life '08. Now what can I eBay for £55?

Ready for some 4G iMac nerd porn?

Here's some nice shots of the beautiful new iMac. Engadget took them as they unpacked and fitted more RAM (third-party, I hope).

Keynote ready for veiwing

You can now watch the, somewhat low-key, keynote in streaming quicktime.

Has a keyboard ever been so sexy?

So the leaked photos were real. Here are the new keyboards.
The wide and wired keyboard is £29 and the compact bluetooth keyboard is £49.

.Mac subscribers get 10GB of storage

.Mac gets more features like web galleries (above) and the storage capasity bloats from 1GB to 10GB. Oh goody!
Doh! Web Gallery needs iLife '08. Godammit!

Spreadsheets come to iWork

iWork has also been updated and now includes spreadsheets. See here for more.

iLife jumps ahead into the future

iLife has been updated to '08, presumably to give them a five months head start on the '09 version. Lot's of brand new goodies inside so see here for more details.

Mac mini defies death (again)

The Mac mini lives to see another generation.
Apple have finally give the poor mini a Intel Core 2 Duo which makes it 33% faster than the last. There's either a 1.83GHz Core 2 Duo or 2.0GHz Core Duo processor. Two models are available right now. The 1.83GHz Core 2 Duo model hosts an 80GB hard drive and 1GB of memory. It costs £399, the same price as the equivalent previous model. The 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo offers a larger 120GB drive, 1GB of memory and costs £499, £30 cheaper than it's dad. They both come with iLife '08. Why did they put the year in the name again?

4th Gen iMac gets sexy and I want one.

Ok, it's not that much different from the last one, but it's amazing what a bit of glass and metal can do. It's the iMac in an iPhone stylee. Word. It's slimmer, they removed that big waste of space under the screen and it's now made from anodized aluminum and glass (more recyclable).

I want one, so if anyone can spare me a grand, I'd be a very happy bunny.

Here's the spec and prices:

Apple Store closed. You know what that means?

The Apple Store is closed for updating, the MacNN apple event feed is up and running, I'm getting quite excited!

Jobs didn't always wear black polo, faded jeans and NB trainers

The GuardianOnline have profiled the Seven Ages of Steve Jobs in a seven photo slide show. Nice 'tache!

New Metal iMac prices...

Rumoured prices for today's rumoured metal iMacs have been leaked to the Macrumor site. "We've received word that price points for the new "Good", "Better", and "Ultra" iMac models will fall at $1199, $1499, and $1799 price points. No details beyond this are available, and it does not exclude the possibility of other configurations. They previously noted that an Italian site discovered that a Google search for 'iMac with touchscreen' leads you to the Apple website. AppleInsider also say that an updated version of the 'soon to be axed' Mac mini may return for one last fight. Also in this post they say that over-priced, under-featured .Mac may be made 'more compelling' after Jobs confessed "I couldn't agree more [with the assessment]...And we'll make up for lost time in the near future."
Come 6pm tonight, I'll be refreshing the news feeds, doubled up in a jealous spasm as there's no way I'll be able to afford one (unless my G4 iMac is damaged in a child-related mishap and I can claim on the insurance). But what if the Mac mini is upgraded with a 200GB HD and a decent video card? I may be persuaded to go for the cheaper option and get a Dell monitor through work (I'm sure I'll be able to cover the logo with something or colour it in with a bit of black touch-up paint). Help! I'm getting over-excited. Don't disappoint me Ive. Like you did with the white plastic paving slab of the G5 iMac.

Next Tuesday - New iMacs!

New iMacs to be launched next Tuesday.
Appleinsider say that journalists have been invited to an event by phone. It will "begin at 10:00 am PDT at the Apple Town Hall on the company's Cupertino-based campus - the same venue used for the introduction of the Intel-based Mac mini and iPod Hi-Fi last February." The also said that the event will not have anything to with iPhones or iPods. iMac it is then. I'd better start saving.

Beatles on iTunes?

Are the Beatles about to appear on iTunes?
This morning I searched for the Beatles in the iTunes Store and, as you can see above, there's a link to them in Artists panel on the search results page. If you click on it you'll find that it's broken. I haven't seen this before so I guess it's been put there recently. I looks the Beatles' tracks are in place, ready to buy as the legal loose ends are being tied.
